On Friday, 23rd of May, Year 8 students at Islamia Girls School took part in the Young Writers' poetry competition. The national initiative is designed to give students a platform to express their thoughts, creativity, and voice through creative writing and poetry. The theme of this year’s poetry competition for Secondary school (ages 11-18) was Empowered.
The competition, run by Young Writers, encourages students across the UK to engage with creative writing in a meaningful way, offering them the chance to explore personal ideas, social issues, and imaginative themes through verse.
Our English teacher, Ms Michelle Berry, supported the students through their creative process. and was pleased to observe a high level of enthusiasm. Here is what she had to say:
“The children enjoyed creating their poems using their own imaginative ideas and are very excited to enter the competition!”
The competition not only nurtures literacy and self-expression but also offers students the opportunity to be published in an anthology alongside young poets from across the country.
We’re incredibly proud of our budding writers at Islamia Girls School and look forward to seeing their creativity recognised on a national stage.
