IGS & BCB MasterChef Competitions

IGS & BCB MasterChef Competitions

This past term, our students from both Islamia Girls School (IGS) and Brondesbury College (BCB) took part in a series of cooking competitions, showcasing their culinary talents. It was feast for the senses, and we are proud to share their achievements!

The much-anticipated Masterchef and Junior Masterchef Challenges are internal school events we run each year. The competitions began with the second round of the IGS Masterchef heats, held on Monday 14th and Wednesday 16th April 2025. Students from Years 7 to 10 (IGS) and Years 7 and 10 (BCB) rose to the challenge, preparing original dishes under the scrutiny of staff judges from both schools. The judging criteria focused on presentation, taste, hygiene, and cleanliness — and the standard was impressively high.

Those with top scores advanced to the IGS MasterChef Finals, which took place on Wednesday 7th May. The finalists delivered an exceptional level of skill and creativity, turning the Food Tech rooms into a hub of delicious aromas and intense focus. One of the most memorable aspects was seeing students' faces light up with pride as they presented visually stunning dishes — from carefully layered desserts and decorated baked goods to vibrant, precisely rolled sushi.

A week later, on Tuesday 13th May, it was the turn of our younger chefs in the Junior MasterChef Finals. Open to students in Years 7 to 10 at IGS and Years 7 and 8 at BCB, the Junior competition saw teams display excellent teamwork and time management as they raced against the clock to impress the judges.

These competitions were about more than just food — they offered students a fun, hands-on learning experience beyond the classroom. By promoting practical life skills like cooking and nutrition awareness, encouraging creativity in food presentation, and building confidence through collaboration, the events were a fantastic way to bring students and staff together in celebration of student passion and talent.
